As Premier, I am deeply concerned about the rate of domestic and family violence in NSW.

Too many lives have been lost, and too many families destroyed by these terrible crimes. It must stop.

My Government is listening to victims and advocates about what we need to do to keep women and children safe. Now we are acting.

From today, any alleged serious domestic violence offender who is granted bail will be electronically monitored around the clock using GPS technology.

The new program will allow corrective services to track alleged offenders against bail conditions.

If an alleged offender enters a restricted zone such as a residential address, school, workplace or a suburb, NSW Police will then be notified and take the appropriate action.

This new initiative is just one part of my plan to address the unacceptable rate of violence against women and families.

Earlier this year, we significantly tightened bail laws for people charged with serious domestic violence offences, forcing them to ‘show cause’ why they should not be detained.

It is now harder than ever for alleged domestic violence offenders to get bail, but if they do, these new monitoring devices ensure we can keep an eye on their movements.

Everyone should be able to feel safe in their own home, but all too often for many that is not the case.

When that right has been taken away from someone, these laws aim to support victim-survivors in feeling and being safe again.

We know that there is still more to do.
