$200 Million Road Maintenance Blitz

By The Hon. Chris Minns MP

17 October 2025

There is nothing more annoying than driving on the same roads every day and avoiding the same bumps and potholes.

It's not a minor problem. It can be genuinely dangerous. And it's something our government takes very seriously.

In the last year alone 10,900 potholes have been repaired across Greater Sydney, but we know there is always more to do.

That's why we are fast-tracking $200 million to get the job done.

After one of the wettest winters in two decades, there was a surge in repair work needed on the roads we use every day.

Locally, we filled in over 882 potholes in the Bayside and Georges River Council areas within Kogarah, with 5,900 getting filled across Sydney between August and September alone.

This investment brings Greater Sydney's total road maintenance funding this year to $488 million, improving safety, reliability and resilience of the network by ensuring faster repairs, fewer potholes and reduced vehicle damage.

At the same time as we deliver the new roads that growing communities need, we are ensuring that existing roads remain safe.

Work under this program will be prioritised based on traffic volumes, location and severity of the pothole, and the road's importance for freight, bus services and emergency access.

Around 15 per cent of pothole repairs are identified through public reports, which can be made to Transport for NSW online or by ringing 131 700.

Last year alone, 1.57 million hours of maintenance work was completed across Sydney's roads, resulting in 900 potholes repaired, nearly 1 million square meters of road resurfaced and 344 kilometers of new line markings.

Maintaining our roads is a job that never stops, and I want to take the time to thank the road maintenance crews who work rain, hail or shine to keep our roads safe.

If you know a pothole or road that needs attention, get in touch with local council or Transport for NSW to get it fixed.

This $200 million blitz across Sydney's busiest corridors is one part of delivering a safer, fairer road network.

It helps give families certainty and workers and businesses the confidence to plan for the future.

We're investing in both the future of our road network because whether you're commuting to work, dropping the kids off at school or running a small business, you deserve to drive on safe and reliable streets.
