In our first budget as a Government, we committed to building 100 fee-free public preschools in the communities that needed them most.
We have now kicked off construction on 25 public preschools, marking the next step in the biggest expansion of public preschools in our state's history.
We know that access to quality preschool education improves lifelong outcomes for children and families.
Every child deserves world-class public education in NSW.
Every one of these fee-free public preschools will be built on the site of a public school, helping working families and supporting children who are making the transition to kindergarten.
None of this would have been possible without the leadership of our Deputy Premier, Prue Car, who has been a tireless champion for universal childcare in our state.
Thanks to Prue, we are building more schools, hiring more teachers and lifting outcomes for students right across NSW.
After twelve years, the former Liberal National Government didn't open a single public preschool in our state.
It was not a priority for a Government that preferred to privatise services rather than deliver them.
Rebuilding our education system takes time, and as Premier, I know there is more to do, but we are not slowing down as we deliver the biggest investment in public schools in our state's history.
We are building 100 new public preschools, all located next to or inside existing public schools, open by 2027.
Not only will these public preschools bring down costs for families, but they will also improve access to early education and give our children the best start in life.
These crucial investments will make a real difference in the lives of kids in our state, making sure every kid in every postcode can receive a world-class education in the best facilities possible.
