Better Schools for our Children

My Government is working to make sure every student gets the world class education they deserve, right where they live.

We are building more classrooms, hiring more teachers and lifting student outcomes across NSW.

Better Schools Across Kogarah

We’ve opened the new Kogarah High School Oval and upgrades have commenced at Kogarah Public School including the replacement of demountables with 24 permanent classrooms and the building of a new school Hall.

13 upgrades are also being delivered across Blakehurst, Carlton, Carlton South, Hurstville and Kingsgrove Public Schools. Blakehurst, Kingsgrove, St George Girls and Sydney Technical High Schools as well as Georges River College Hurstville Boys Campus.

We are also delivering a new public preschool co-located at Kingsgrove Public School. This public preschool will help bring down costs for families, improve access to early education and give our kids the best start in life.

More Teachers for our Children

Because of the former Liberal Government’s unfair wages cap and neglect of public education, teacher vacancies reached an all time high, resulting in 10,000 merged and cancelled classes across NSW every day.

When my Government was elected one of our priorities was to rebuild our education system. Just in the last two and a half years we’ve:

  • Delivered the largest pay rise in a generation to all of NSW’s public school teachers;

  • Reduced teacher vacancies locally by 80 per cent meaning our kids are spending more time learning in class and receiving more one-on-one attention from their teachers; and

  • Nearly halved the number of merged and cancelled classes by getting more teachers into the classroom.

Rebuilding our education system takes time but we are committed to getting the job done.
