Making Renting Fairer

Housing remains one of the greatest challenges our State faces, and my Government is determined to turn that around.

When I became Premier three years ago, I promised to do my part to help take the pressure off buying or renting your home.

More than a third of people across our State rent, and as cost-of-living pressures continue, they are renting for longer.

This is why I am committed to making renting fairer and more secure by;

  • Limiting rent increases to once a year
  • Banned no-grounds evictions
  • Established a NSW Rental Commissioner to give renters an advocate and a tough cop on the beat
  • Establishing Rent Check, a new, free tool renters can use to help check whether the rent they're being asked to pay is fair

·

We’re also launching a nation-first Portable Bonds Scheme, stopping families from having to pay a bond twice while moving homes to take some of the financial pressure off.

More Homes for Kogarah

We are delivering historic planning reforms to build more homes that people can buy and rent, and these reforms are starting to work as;

  • Approvals are now up 19 per cent
  • Decisions are 15 per cent faster
  • 75,000 homes are under construction right now.

 Our First Home Buyers Assistance Program has completely removed or reduced stamp duty for over 82,000 first home buyers across New South Wales.

These are real, practical measures in effect right now to take some of the burden off families trying to get into the home they want.
